Reliable Drivetrain and Brake Repair for Diesel Trucks
-
Authorized Cummins and Onan dealer
-
ASE certified diesel mechanic
Your truck's drivetrain and braking system carry the full weight of every load you haul, and wear on either one shows up fast on the road. Gulf Coast Power provides commercial diesel repair for transmissions, differentials, drive shafts, and braking components on Class 4 through Class 8 trucks, along with the diesel trucks used across landscaping, construction, and delivery fleets in Manatee and Sarasota Counties.
Heavy duty diesel repair isn't something to schedule around your route, it's something that needs to happen before a small issue becomes a roadside breakdown. Our shop and mobile teams diagnose drivetrain vibration, clutch slippage, and brake fade quickly, so your truck gets back to work with minimal downtime.
Whether you run a single owner-operated rig or manage a fleet of a dozen trucks, we build a service plan around your usage, your routes, and your budget. Cummins diesel repair experience means we know how these engines and the systems behind them are supposed to perform, and we know what it looks like when something's wrong.
Our Services
What's Included in Our Drivetrain and Brake Services
Our diesel truck mechanic team handles every component between your engine and the road, backed by full diesel diagnostics equipment for accurate repairs the first time.
- Transmission repair, rebuilds, and replacement
- Differential service and gear repair
- Brake pad, rotor, and drum replacement
- Brake fluid flushes and ABS system diagnostics
- Drive shaft, U-joint, and CV joint service
- Clutch inspection, adjustment, and replacement
We also handle the diesel oil change and fluid service work that keeps your drivetrain lubricated and protected between major repairs, since worn fluid is one of the most common causes of premature transmission and differential wear.
Our Process
How We Approach Every Drivetrain and Brake Repair
Every truck that comes through our shop, or that we meet at your yard or job site, goes through the same careful process. Here's what to expect from start to finish.
-
Step 1: Full Diagnostic Inspection
We start with a hands-on inspection and computer diagnostics to pinpoint the exact source of vibration, noise, or braking issues before any parts come off the truck.
-
Step 2: Straightforward Repair Estimate
Once we know what's wrong, we walk you through the repair options and costs in plain language, with an estimate provided promptly so you can plan around it.
-
Step 3: Repair at Your Shop or On Site
Our mobile diesel mechanic team can complete many brake and drivetrain repairs through on site diesel repair at your location, or you can bring the truck to our Palmetto shop for more extensive work.
-
Step 4: Road Test and Final Check
Before we call the job done, we road test the truck and recheck every repaired component, confirming braking response and drivetrain performance under real conditions.

Warning Signs Your Truck Needs Drivetrain or Brake Work
Diesel drivetrain and braking problems rarely fix themselves, and they tend to get more expensive the longer they're ignored. Watch for these signs that it's time to schedule a service:
Grinding, squealing, or a soft brake pedal usually points to worn pads, rotors, or a hydraulic issue in the braking system. Clunking or vibration when accelerating or shifting often signals a failing U-joint, CV joint, or transmission component.
A truck that pulls to one side while braking, shudders at highway speed, or takes noticeably longer to stop should be checked immediately rather than driven another shift. These are exactly the kinds of issues our preventative diesel maintenance inspections are designed to catch before they leave you stranded.

Common questions
Answers before you call
The questions we are asked most, answered by the team that does the work.
Read all our FAQsWhat does diesel engine maintenance actually include?
A typical service includes oil and fluid service, filter replacement, and a full diesel diagnostics check on belts, hoses, and electrical connections. For customers running fleets or heavy equipment, we build out fleet diesel maintenance schedules so trucks and generators get serviced before small issues turn into major repair jobs. Regular diesel engine maintenance is almost always cheaper than an emergency breakdown.
Can you work on my boat's engine and generator, or just one or the other?
Both. We handle diesel marine engine repair and diesel boat generator repair as part of our marine diesel services, checking your engine and onboard generator together whenever possible. Many of our Longboat Key and Anna Maria customers have us check both systems during the same visit to save a second trip.
Do you repair RVs too, or only boats and generators?
Yes, RV repair is one of our core services. We handle mobile RV repair for travelers and full-time RV residents across the Gulf Coast, covering engines, generators, and onboard AC systems. For larger diesel-pushed RVs, we also handle the transmission, brake, drivetrain, and suspension work these units need to stay road-ready.
